So I just ended an uplifting conversation at a local coffee shop where another woman and I talked women in ministry and said, "God is up to something. Let's do what we can with the gifts he has given us."
I feel a fresh energy in this new season—a season in which God is clarifying my call and giving me wisdom in to how to speak up for his daughters and his sons both in my community and around the world.
We will never know why one Christian woman was forever kept apart from the love of her life. But looking back on her story, it's clear that Providence was guiding Diet Eman, a young Dutch Christian who helped to save more than 80 Jews fleeing Nazi persecution in the 1940s. In the December print issue, we have the privilege of recounting the story of "the other Corrie ten Boom." It includes Eman's and her fiancé, Hein Sietsema, spending years apart: imprisoned, on the run, ultimately never marrying. Clearly Eman's marital status was no barrier to kingdom work. Thanks especially to Suzanne Burden, who convincingly pitched this story to me at the Redbud Writers Guild retreat this winter. Nine months later, your story is seeing the light of day!
As you can imagine, there's a story behind how I came to write this feature story on a woman who has inspired me for ten years now. And she's still living today! Get the scoop in the first edition of my enewsletter, The Journal, due to release Monday, October 5.
